A 'Pearl Handled' Glock?

Glock 23
Have you ever read a book, and come across a huge mistake? Not like a spelling error, but something that the author put in the book that was completely wrong?
I read a book once where the main character was given a ‘Pearl handled’ Glock as a gift.
Now, anyone who has ever even looked at a Glock would know that the receiver is made from a single piece of nylon-based polymer. (Plastic for those of you who don’t really care about specifics.) This was an easily preventable error that proved the author did not do basic research of the topic they were writing about.
There are numerous examples of these types of errors; model names of equipment, distances between real cities, dates of historical events... the list continues. Authors should strive to research their topic to eradicate these easily preventable types of mistakes.

Bible KJVAs Christians, we should “...be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear...” (I Peter 3:15)
How can we give an accurate answer to every man if we never bother to research the topic we are commanded to present?
We are told to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (II Timothy 2:15)
There is absolutely no excuse for a Christian to not be able to accurately explain his beliefs. If we make a mistake it is usually because of a lack of research.

Ask yourself, have you opened your Bible today for study?

Have you only done your duty?

When Christ was preaching to the multitudes, He made an interesting request. “And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.” (Matthew 5:41)
A Roman soldier could “compel” a Jew to carry his pack for 1,000 paces, or one Roman mile. By offering to go a second mile, a Christian would be doing two things;
First, he would then give a positive testimony to the Roman soldier. Part of me wonders if the Roman Centurion that believes on Christ in Matthew 8 was brought to the faith by the simple testimony of one Christian who chose to go “the extra mile” after this sermon.
Secondly, by going a second mile, it would be a positive testimony to the next Jew in line who would have been stuck carrying the bag. It is testimony of Self-Sacrifice that is indicative of a walk with Christ.
As we go through our Christian lives let us remember the admonition in Luke 17:10

“So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.”

Reading is important... but what are you reading

As an author, I want people to read my words. Unfortunately, many Christians spend more time in fiction than they do in the Word of God. While many Christian authors like myself strive to write fiction that is spiritually uplifting, it is not a replacement for the Bible.
Christians are commanded to "Keep thy heart with all diligence..." (Proverbs 4:23)
If we are to keep our hearts, it will involve doing the things that would protect it from danger.
  • Psalm 119 tells us that we should Read the Scripture
  • II Timothy tells us to Run from Sin
  • Finally James tells us that we should Respond with Supplication
  • Most of all, however, we should always Rely on the Savior, because it is only through Him we can have victory.
Before you settle down with a good book, make sure you have settled down with the Good Book.
Charles H. Spurgeon said it best; “Visit many good books, but live in the Bible.”
