Have you ever read a book, and come across a huge mistake? Not like a spelling error, but something that the author put in the book that was completely wrong?
I read a book once where the main character was given a ‘Pearl
handled’ Glock as a gift.
Now, anyone who has ever even looked at a Glock would know
that the receiver is made from a single piece of nylon-based polymer. (Plastic
for those of you who don’t really care about specifics.) This was an easily
preventable error that proved the author did not do basic research of the topic
they were writing about.
There are numerous examples of these types of errors; model
names of equipment, distances between real cities, dates of historical
events... the list continues. Authors should strive to research their topic to
eradicate these easily preventable types of mistakes.
As Christians, we should “...be
ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the
hope that is in you with meekness and fear...” (I Peter 3:15)
How can we give an accurate answer to every man if we never
bother to research the topic we are commanded to present?
We are told to “Study
to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.” (II Timothy 2:15)
There is absolutely no excuse for a Christian to not be able
to accurately explain his beliefs. If we make a mistake it is usually because
of a lack of research.
Ask yourself, have you opened your Bible today for study?
